How to write a cover letter (with a simple structure)
A practical cover letter structure: opening, why you fit, why this company, and a confident close — in under one page.
Keep it to one page
Three to four short paragraphs is enough. Address a named person when you can find one.
Open with the role and a hook
Say which job you are applying for and give one strong reason you are a good match, ideally linked to something in the job ad.
Show that you fit
Pick two or three requirements from the ad and give a real example for each from your work, studies or volunteering.
Explain why this employer
Mention something specific about the company — its product, values or a recent project — and why it matters to you.
Close with confidence
Thank the reader, say you would welcome an interview, and sign with your full name and contact details.
